چکیده

Composite-overwrapped pressure vessels (COPV) are increasingly used in the transportation industry due to their high strength mass ratio. Throughout years, various designs were developed and found applications. Currently, there five designs, which can be subdivided into two main categories - with a load-sharing metal liner non-load-sharing plastic liner. The damage mechanism defining lifetime of first type is fatigue liner, whereas for second it composite overwrap. Nevertheless, one may drastically reduce COPV impact-induced damage. Therefore, this barely visible needs assessed non-destructive way decide whether vessel further or has put out service. One possible methods based on ultrasonic waves. In contribution, both conventional testing (UT) by high-frequency bulk waves wavenumber mapping low frequency guided evaluate impact Wavenumber techniques benchmarked simulated aluminium panel then applied experimental measurements acquired delaminated aluminium-CFRP plate corresponds structure analysis data obtained from propagating an performed. All approaches show similar performance terms quantification size depths while being numerical data. deliver accurate estimate in-plane large delamination at interface but only rough its depth. Moreover, none study quantify every between CFRP plies caused impact, case UT. This solved using higher frequencies (shorter wavelengths) more advanced signal processing techniques. all, concluded that imaging complex fibre-reinforced composites not straightforward stays challenging task.

On-Line Multi-Damage Scanning Spatial-Wavenumber Filter Based Imaging Method for Aircraft Composite Structure

Structural health monitoring (SHM) of aircraft composite structure is helpful to increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs. Due to the great effectiveness in distinguishing particular guided wave modes and identifying the propagation direction, the spatial-wavenumber filter technique has emerged as an interesting SHM topic. In this paper, a new scanning spatial-wavenumber filter (SSWF) ...

Complex Wavenumber Rossby Wave Ray Tracing

This paper presents a methodology for performing complex wavenumber ray tracing in which both wave trajectory and amplitude are calculated. This ray-tracing framework is first derived using a scaling in which the imaginary wavenumber component is assumed to be much smaller than the real wavenumber component. The approach, based on perturbation methods, is strictly valid when this scaling condit...

A Guided Wave Sensor Enabling Simultaneous Wavenumber-Frequency Analysis for Both Lamb and Shear-Horizontal Waves

Guided waves in plate-like structures have been widely investigated for structural health monitoring. Lamb waves and shear horizontal (SH) waves, two commonly used types of waves in plates, provide different benefits for the detection of various types of defects and material degradation. However, there are few sensors that can detect both Lamb and SH waves and also resolve their modal content, ...

Frequency-wavenumber domain methods for analysis of incident and scattered guided wave fields

Full acoustic wavefield data were acquired from an aluminum plate with various structural discontinuities and artificial defects using an air-coupled transducer mounted on a scanning stage. Piezoelectric transducers permanently mounted on the specimen were used as wave sources. These source transducers were elements of a permanently attached sparse array. A time series of wavefield images clear...

Linear and Nonlinear Guided Wave Imaging of Impact Damage in CFRP Using a Probabilistic Approach

The amount and variety of composite structures that need to be inspected for the presence of impact damage has grown significantly in the last few decades. In this paper, an application of a probabilistic ultrasonic guided wave imaging technique for impact damage detection in carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) is presented. On the one hand, a linear, baseline-dependent, technique utilizing...
