چکیده

This paper “Part 2: Surface Adsorption, Electric Double Layer, and Diffusion Layer” is the applicational part a continuation of 1: Fundamentals” (https://doi.org/10.5796/electrochemistry.22-66082). explains principles cyclic voltammetry on adsorption, electric double layer, diffusion layer with microelectrodes. Moreover, recent trends, such as polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs), capacitors (EDLCs), sensors, are highlighted. The relationship between electrochemical surface area (ECSA) quantity estimated basis voltammograms explained in chapter where adsorption hydrogen carbon monoxide Pt discussed. following introduces pseudo-capacitance activated carbon, which exhibits characteristic capacitor-like behavior, Faradaic current flow surface. Finally, an explanation concerning effect diffusion-limiting currents two types microelectrodes practical case enzyme sensing using microelectrode included.

Reevaluation of Performance of Electric Double-layer Capacitors from Constant-current Charge/Discharge and Cyclic Voltammetry

The electric characteristics of electric-double layer capacitors (EDLCs) are determined by their capacitance which is usually measured in the time domain from constant-current charging/discharging and cyclic voltammetry tests, and from the frequency domain using nonlinear least-squares fitting of spectral impedance. The time-voltage and current-voltage profiles from the first two techniques are...

Physical interpretation of cyclic voltammetry for measuring electric double layer capacitances

This paper aims to develop a model for simulating the electric double layer dynamics in CV measurements while simultaneously accounting for transport phenomena in both the electrode and the electrolyte. It also aims (i) to identify the dimensionless parameters that govern the CV measurements, (ii) to provide a physical interpretation of the shape of CV curves, and (iii) to investigate the effec...

Weak localization in electric-double-layer gated few-layer graphene

We induce surface carrier densities up to ∼ ⋅ 7 1014 cm−2 in few-layer graphene devices by electric double layer gating with a polymeric electrolyte. In 3-, 4and 5-layer graphene below 20–30 K we observe a logarithmic upturn of resistance that we attribute to weak localization in the diffusive regime. By studying this effect as a function of carrier density and with ab initio calculations we de...

Electric double layer of anisotropic dielectric colloids under electric fields

Anisotropic colloidal particles constitute an important class of building blocks for self-assembly directed by electrical fields. The aggregation of these building blocks is driven by induced dipole moments, which arise from an interplay between dielectric effects and the electric double layer. For particles that are anisotropic in shape, charge distribution, and dielectric properties, calculat...
