Cybercrime Reporting Behaviors Among Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the Netherlands

Despite the high prevalence of cybercrime victimization among businesses, only few these crimes are reported to police. This study used a sample 529 Dutch small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) owners, examine which characteristics offence, SME, SME owner predict reporting behaviors. Moreover, motives either report police or not were examined. All respondents shown three vignettes about fictional incidents asked how they would react in this situation. Next, also their behaviors after actual victimization. The large majority owners said that from police, but 14.1% cybercrimes was Seriousness type offense best predictors for reporting, with cyber-enabled being more often than cyber-dependent crimes.
