چکیده

Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) have been increasingly released in aquatic ecosystems over the past decades as they are used many applications. Cu toxicity to different organisms has already highlighted literature, however mechanisms of nanoparticulate form remain unclear. Here, we investigated effect, transfer and localization CuO-NPs compared salt on plant Myriophyllum spicatum, an ecotoxicological model species with a pivotal role freshwater ecosystems, establish clear mode action. Plants were exposed 0.5 mg/L salt, 5 70 during 96 h 10 days. Several morphological physiological endpoints measured. was found more toxic than plants based all measured despite similar internal concentration demonstrated via mapping by micro particle-induced X-ray emission (μPIXE) coupled Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS). Biomacromolecule composition FTIR converged between treatments after This demonstrates that difference comes from sudden massive Cu2+ addition acute exposure, versus progressive leaching representing chronic exposure. Understanding NP can help future conception safer design NPs thus diminishing their impact both environment humans.

Copper Accumulation, Tolerance and Release by a Submerged Aquatic Plant Myriophyllum Spicatum L

EXTENDED ABSTRACT Myriophyllum spicatum L. is a common macrophyte in aquatic environments and is often considered as preferred aquatic plants in phytoremediation. We investigated Cu accumulation, tolerance and release of the submerged aquatic plant M. spicatum and its potential for Cu phytoremediation. Plant shoots accumulated Cu with a maximum of 18 735 mg Cu kg dry weight after exposed to 62....

Development of microsatellite markers in the hexaploid aquatic macrophyte, Myriophyllum spicatum (Haloragaceae)1

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY We developed microsatellite primers to investigate genetic diversity and population genetic structure of the cosmopolitan submerged plant Myriophyllum spicatum. • METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty microsatellite loci were identified in M. spicatum using the microsatellite-enriched library method. The numbers of alleles per locus ranged from one to 13, and the expec...

Photosynthesis in Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.).

Gas exchange of Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) indicated a near-zero CO(2) compensation point and a high temperature optimum for photosynthesis. These properties are characteristic of plants fixing CO(2) by a beta-carboxylation mechanism. Operation of the Calvin cycle was shown and no evidence for beta-carboxylation was obtained. These results indicate that near-zero CO(2) com...

Polyphenolic allelochemicals from the aquatic angiosperm Myriophyllum spicatum inhibit photosystem II.

Myriophyllum spicatum (Haloragaceae) is a highly competitive freshwater macrophyte that produces and releases algicidal and cyanobactericidal polyphenols. Among them, beta-1,2,3-tri-O-galloyl-4,6-(S)-hexahydroxydiphenoyl-D-glucose (tellimagrandin II) is the major active substance and is an effective inhibitor of microalgal exoenzymes. However, this mode of action does not fully explain the stro...

Testing the use of the water milfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) in laboratory toxicity assays.

Tests aiming to determine the toxic properties of compounds discharged into aquatic systems have relied more on fish or invertebrates than on primary producers and among a number of producers; algae are the most popular test organisms. Macrophytes are important ecological elements in freshwaters and are therefore potentially key organisms for use in toxicity testing of compounds suspected of ac...
