Development of isometric force and force control in children.

Fifty-six children between 5 and 12 years of age and 15 adults performed a task (pressing on a lever with the index finger of the preferred hand), in which a force had to be maintained constant at five levels with on-line visual feedback. Since this is a simple isometric task, the hypothesis is that optimal performance (in terms of force variability control) closely matches the maturation of th...

Progressive isometric force training

In ten growing male Wistar rats, isometric strength training for 69 days (3-6 times vertical gripping position on a wire-netting during 2 x 30 s, with progressive loading of the tail through a 50-200 g indwelling clip), fat mass and plasma leptin concentrations were lower on day 70 than in ten sedentary controls. Muscle mass and femoral trabecular and cortical bone mineral density were simultan...

Motor unit control properties in constant-force isometric contractions.

1. The purpose of this study was 1) to characterize the decrease observed in mean firing rates of motor units in the first 8-15 s of isometric constant-force contractions and 2) to investigate possible mechanisms that could account for the ability to maintain force output in the presence of decreasing motor unit firing rates. 2. The decrease in mean firing rates was characterized by investigati...

Cerebral mechanisms underlying the effects of music during a fatiguing isometric ankle-dorsiflexion task.

The brain mechanisms by which music-related interventions ameliorate fatigue-related symptoms during the execution of fatiguing motor tasks are hitherto under-researched. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of music on brain electrical activity and psychophysiological measures during the execution of an isometric fatiguing ankle-dorsiflexion task performed until th...

Cutaneous horn and Callosity of the ankle: A case report

Cutaneous horn is a horn-like keratotic lesion, which commonly occurs on the head and face, over a wide range of benign or malignant skin lesions. Callosity is a hyperkeratotic plaque produced by intermittent or continuous pressure on the skin. Lateral aspects of the ankles (Lateral malleoli) are frequently involved. We report a rare case of cutaneous horn developed on ankle callosity.
