Customising Microstructural and Mineralogical Characteristics of Hydrated Lime Using Biopolymers

The study of lime-based systems is vital to the design new sustainable building materials. Air lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca (OH) 2 ) a binder that has attracted considerable attention for its ability capture CO from atmosphere, low-cost and low-energy production process. Furthermore, an important phase hydrated Portland cements, mortars have shown high elasticity self-healing. performance materials can be enhanced by addition organic compounds modify mineralogy microstructure . In this study, effects four biopolymers including starch, inulin, pectin, calcium lignosulfonate, on been investigated. Hydrated was produced slaking quicklime in water. Two sets batches were each polymer: (i) polymer previously dissolved water subsequently mixed with lime, (ii) added as dry powder already at end Characterisation performed using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction laser diffraction. Results indicate affect nucleation growth crystals. This influences crystal aggregation colloidal suspension, which will implications use cement applications mortars.
