Current Prescribing Practices in Bacterial Skin Infections in a Tertiary care hospital- A Prospective study

Background: Skin diseases of microbial etiology are caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and ectoparasites, which bacterial infections most common than others. Antibiotic resistance among the micro-organisms is developing due to indiscriminate use antibiotics irrational prescription drugs. Aims Objectives: The aims this study were assess various aspects pattern rational for in department dermatology. Materials Methods: A prospective analysis 120 patients attending Dermatology Out Patient Department, at Government Medical College, Srikakulam, 16 months (June 2017–September 2018) was carried out analyze usage through routes treat dermatological infections. number prescribed, their name, class drug, frequency route administration, duration recorded analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Among population, 55.9% male 44.1% female. Acne vulgaris (25%) condition, prescribed followed impetigo (16.66%). Most commonly systemic penicillins (51.66%) macrolides (18.33%). topical antibiotic mupirocin (33.33%) clindamycin (25%). preferred administration oral (62.44%). Conclusion: Prescription proved that dermatologists rationality contributed part curb spread resistance. Periodic screening drug prescribing studies should be done rationalize prescription, reduce errors, increase therapeutic benefits cost-effective management.
