چکیده

Plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) destroy over 12% of global food crops every year, which equates to roughly 157 billion dollars (USD) lost annually. With a growing population and limited arable land, controlling PPN infestation is critical for production. Compounding the challenge maximizing crop yields are mounting restrictions on effective pesticides because lack nematode selectivity. Hence, developing new safe chemical nematicides vital security. In this protocol, culture collection species Ditylenchus dipsaci demonstrated. D. both economically damaging relatively resistant most modern nematicides. The current work also explains how use these in screens novel small molecule reports data analysis methodologies. demonstrated pipeline affords throughput thousands compounds per week can be easily adapted with other such as Pratylenchus penetrans. techniques described herein used discover nematicides, may, turn, further developed into highly selective commercial products that safely combat PPNs help feed an increasingly hungry world.

Plant parasitic nematode proteins and the host parasite interaction.

This review focuses on the proteins and secretions of sedentary plant parasitic nematodes potentially important for plant-nematode interactions. These nematodes are well equipped for parasitism of plants. Having acquired the ability to manipulate fundamental aspects of plant biology, they are able to hijack host-cell development to make their feeding site. They feed exclusively from feeding sit...

Plant-parasitic Nematode Problems in the Pacific Islands.

The Pacific islands have a diverse range of food and cash crops with indigenous and introduced nematode problems. The staple food crops have serious nematode pests, such as Meloidogyne spp. on sweet potato, Hirschmanniella miticausa causing corm rot of taro, and Pratylenchus coffeae and Radopholus sp. producing tuber dry rot of yams. Bananas are infested with P. coffeae or R. similis, citrus wi...

Abiotic Soil Factors and Plant-parasitic Nematode Communities.

A natural community of plant-parasitic nematodes is usually polyspecific. The host plant is the most important driving force in nematode populations, but abiotic factors are important in maintaining the steady state. Nematode communities often separate by abiotic soil factors. In any continuous habitat, including crop plants, generally there is a consistency of the most abundant species, which ...

Plant-parasitic Nematode Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition by Carbamate and Organophosphate Nematicides.

The sensitivity of acetylcholinesterases (ACHE) isolated from the plant-parasitic nematodes Meloidogyne arenaria, M. incognita, and Heterodera glycines and the free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to carbamate and organophosphate nematicides was examined. The AChE from plant-parasitic nematode species were more sensitive to carbamate inhibitors than was AChE from C. elegans, but response...

Plant-parasitic Nematode Distributions in an Alfalfa Field.

A 7-ha alfalfa field (Medicago saliva L. cv Mesa Sirsa) was sampled systematically on a 6 x 6-m grid by removing individual cores (2.54 cm diam) to a depth of 45 cm from each of the 1,936 grid intersections. The soil was mainly coarse-textured with a fine-textured streak running centrally, north to south. Nematodes were extracted by a semiautomatic elutriator and sugar flotation-sieving techniq...
