Cs Extraction from Chloride Media by Calixarene Crown-Ethers

Asse II salt mine, in Germany, contains low and intermediate-level radioactive waste that must be retrieved the upcoming years. Potentially contaminated salts brines will require treatment, with 137Cs being main contaminant. Cs+ is problematic to selectively recover due its chemical similarity Na+ K+ which are present high quantities a mine. This paper offers novel solution for separation from concentrated chloride media by solvent extraction calixarene-crown-ether extractants an alcoholic diluent. The proposed extracts at elevated concentrations (3–4 M) while back-extraction achieved contacting dilute (0.01 hydrochloric acid.
