The synthesis of the title salt, [Ag(C(6)H(7)N(4))(2)](NO(3))(3), was carried out employing a 1:2 molar ratio of 2,2'-biimidazole and silver nitrate respectively. The cation has crystallographically-imposed C2 symmetry with the metal atom in an almost linear coordination environment [N-Ag-N = 177.01 (17)°]. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C4H7N2)2[CoCl4], consists of two 2-methyl-imidazolium cations and one tetra-hedral [CoCl4](2-) anion. The anions and cations inter-act through N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds to define layers with a stacking direction along [100]. Besides van der Waals forces, weak C-H⋯Cl inter-actions between these layers stabilize the crystal packing.
