Crystal Nanoarchitectonics and Characterization of the Octahedral Iron(III)–Nitrate Complexes with Isomer Dimethylurea Ligands

Three octahedral iron(III) nitrate complexes with dimethylated urea ligand isomers, [hexakis(N,N’-dimethylurea-O)iron(III)] (compound 1), trans-[diaquatetrakis(N,N-dimethylurea-O)iron(III)] 2), and [hexakis(N,N-dimethylurea-O)iron(III)] trihydrate 3) were prepared characterized single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, Raman UV–Vis methods. In compounds 1 3, six dimethylurea ligands coordinate to the central FeIII ion via oxygen in geometry are arranged a propeller-like manner, dividing complex cations into two sides. compound 1, propellers screw opposite direction on sides of they same handedness The have helical chirality. differ not only rotation but also hydrogen bond formation. On one side cation, form intermolecular bonds waters, meanwhile other complex, ions. 2, [Fe(N,N-dimethylurea)4(H2O)2]3+ layers that separated by interconnected NO3− ions forming bonding system connecting A-s B-s. three crystallographically different each four way bidentate O atom monodentate atoms; however, anions their bonding. spectroscopic characteristics 2 determined IR measurements deuterated as well.
