Dispersive crystal field excitations and quadrupolar interactions in UPd3.
We report inelastic neutron scattering measurements and random phase approximation calculations of the dispersive crystal field excitations of UPd(3). The measured spectra at lower energies agree with those calculated using quadrupolar interaction parameters deduced from bulk and x-ray scattering measurements. The more intense excitations arising from the hexagonal sites were used to obtain exc...

متن کاملQuasiparticle excitations in relativistic quantum field theory
We analyze the particle-like excitations arising in relativistic field theories in states different than the vacuum. The basic properties characterizing the quasiparticle propagation are studied using two different complementary methods. First we introduce a frequency-based approach, wherein the quasiparticle properties are deduced from the spectral analysis of the twopoint propagators. Second,...
متن کاملCollective Excitations in a 2d Electron System: Canted - Field Geometry
We investigate the charge and spin collective modes induced in a 2D electron gas by a weak electromagnetic perturbation in the presence of a dc magnetic field which makes an angle 0 with the electron layer. The excitation frequencies are determined within , the framework of the Landau-Silin theory of Fermi liquids by solving a semi-classical equation for transport in the selfconsistent electrom...
متن کاملBallistic magnon transport and phonon scattering in the antiferromagnet Nd2CuO4.
The thermal conductivity of the antiferromagnet Nd2CuO4 was measured down to 50 mK. Using the spin-flop transition to switch on and off the acoustic Nd magnons, we can reliably separate the magnon and phonon contributions to heat transport. We find that magnons travel ballistically below 0.5 K, with a thermal conductivity growing as T3, from which we extract their velocity. We show that the rat...
