Five stroke patients with lesions in the perisylvian cortico-subcortical or thalamic region of the right hemisphere produced linguistically correct but semantically loose writing. The behaviour was initiated by subtle prompting and continued semiautomatically. A possible mechanism underlying this hypergraphia is discussed.
