Critique of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Psychedelic Therapy Clinical Memorandum, Dated May 2020

Objective: The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) has positioned itself against medically controlled patient access (at this current time) to 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) psilocybin-assisted therapies in its Therapeutic Use Psychedelic Substances Clinical Memorandum, May 2020. main reason given by the RANZCP for stance is safety concerns. Methods: Every reference clinical memorandum (CM) was checked original publications used justify position. In addition, search engines Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Multidisciplinary Association Therapies (MAPS) website, Goods Administration (TGA) relevant legislation were searched pertinent up-to-date- information. Results: There no scientific or medical evidence from last 70 years suggest that either psilocybin MDMA, when administered as an adjutant therapy a setting, are linked mental illness negative health outcomes. On contrary, MDMA have been shown be safe, non-toxic, non-addictive, efficacious medically-controlled environment. All associated risks apparent uncontrolled setting. Conclusion: RANZCP’s position based on outdated, irrelevant, misinterpreted, misinformed evidence. With recent positive media coverage efficacy these medicines adjunct therapy, there intrinsic risk self-medication underground therapy. This means any discussion must also purvey ethical responsibilities social duties with substances.
