Cradle-to-Gate Life Cycle and Economic Assessment of Sustainable Concrete Mixes—Alkali-Activated Concrete (AAC) and Bacterial Concrete (BC)

چکیده
The negative environmental impacts associated with the usage of Portland cement (PC) in concrete induced intensive research into finding sustainable alternative mixes to obtain “green concrete”. Since principal aim developing such is reduce impact, it imperative conduct a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA). This paper examines three different types mixes, viz., alkali-activated (AAC) natural coarse aggregates, AAC recycled aggregates (RCA), and bacterial (BC). A detailed impact RCA, BC performed through cradle-to-gate LCA using openLCA v.1.10.3 compared versus PC (PCC) equivalent strength. results show that transportation sodium silicate contribute most impact. global warming potential (GWP) PCC 1.4–2 times higher than other mixes. Bacterial without nutrients had lowest all evaluated on damage categories, both at midpoint (except GWP) endpoint levels. are more expensive by 98.8–159.1% 21.8–54.3%, respectively.

Life Cycle Assessment of Sustainable Concrete Made With Recycled Aggregates
The results of an environmental study on concrete manufacture that follows the standard protocol of life cycle assessment are shown in this document. The study has been done for seven types of concrete: one conventional and six containing cement kiln dust (10%), marble sludge (10%) and demolition waste (10%, 80% and 100%) respectively, in partial or total substitution of natural aggregate. Six ...
متن کاملLife Cycle Assessment of Completely Recyclable Concrete
Since the construction sector uses 50% of the Earth's raw materials and produces 50% of its waste, the development of more durable and sustainable building materials is crucial. Today, Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) is mainly used in low level applications, namely as unbound material for foundations, e.g., in road construction. Mineral demolition waste can be recycled as crushed aggreg...

Design and procurement based on holistic whole life appraisal can improve functional quality and, therefore, the overall cost effectiveness and performance of buildings. It is furthermore expected these principles can strengthen the competitiveness of concrete. The initial part of the work, analysed requirements on buildings and how concrete provides answers to these. Life cycle costing, enviro...
متن کاملHow Sustainable Is Concrete?
An analysis was carried out to determine whether concrete is a sustainable housing material. Sustainability generally means having no net negative impact on the environment, and this analysis compared the environmental impact of producing concrete and steel. To make this comparison, we first designed a simple reinforced concrete beam and a steel I-beam with the same moment capacity, and we then...
متن کاملHierarchical Life-Cycle Design of Concrete Structures
Concrete structures’ service life lasts decades. In order to deal with all the probable degradations and deteriorations in the whole life span, the concept of concrete structures’ Life-Cycle Design was introduced into China in the 1980s. However, until this day, Life-Cycle Design is still more of a concept to most structure designers and engineers, rather than a practical method. This paper pro...
