Crack initiation anisotropy of Ni-based SX superalloys in the very high cycle fatigue regime

چکیده
The anisotropic fatigue properties of three Ni-based SX superalloys (AM1, CMSX-4 and MC-NG) were investigated in the very high cycle regime at 20 kHz, R = ?1 750 °C. testing shows that [111] orientation has higher lives stresses lower low compared to standard [001] orientation. At stresses, resolved shear stress on octahedral slip systems explains anisotropy effect. pseudo-cube matrix becomes prominent deformation mechanism over ??-shearing orientation, resulting comparatively properties.

A Thermomechanical Fatigue Crack Initiation Model for Directionally-solidified Ni-base Superalloys
Nickel-base superalloys have been used extensively in power generation applications due to their high strength at temperatures up to 1093°C. When the material is subjected to complex mechanical loading superimposed with thermal loading, fatigue interacts with either creep and/or oxidation. Directionallysolidified (DS) materials are often used in place of polycrystalline (PC) materials since the...
متن کاملVery High Cycle Fatigue Failure Analysis and Life Prediction of Cr-Ni-W Gear Steel Based on Crack Initiation and Growth Behaviors
The unexpected failures of structural materials in very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) regime have been a critical issue in modern engineering design. In this study, the VHCF property of a Cr-Ni-W gear steel was experimentally investigated under axial loading with the stress ratio of R = -1, and a life prediction model associated with crack initiation and growth behaviors was proposed. Results show ...
متن کاملThermal activation of fatigue crack growth: analysing the mechanisms of fatigue crack propagation in superalloys
A method for deriving apparent activation energies, Eapp, for fatigue crack growth (FCG) is presented. It is shown how these Eapp values can be used to analyse the main underlying mechanism causing the progression of the crack. The Eapp values for fatigue crack growth in air and vacuum, and with and without a dwell are obtained for a range of Ni based superalloys for turbine disc applications. ...
متن کاملMicrostructural aspects of fatigue in Ni-base superalloys.
Nickel-base superalloys are primarily used as components in jet engines and land-based turbines. While compositionally complex, they are microstructurally simple, consisting of small (50-1000 nm diameter), ordered, coherent Ni(3)(Al,Ti)-type L1(2) or Ni(3)Nb-type DO(22) precipitates (called γ(') and γ(''), respectively) embedded in an FCC substitutional solid solution consisting primarily of Ni...
متن کاملSide Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life
Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...
