COVID-19 vaccine induced Guillain-Barre syndrome: a case report

Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a rare immune mediated clinical disorder of the peripheral nerves. A number vaccines including COVID-19 vaccine have been shown to be associated with an increased risk GBS. We reported case Corbevax® (COVID-19 vaccine) induced 12 years old girl presented paediatric emergency 2 days history progressive weakness all four limbs. The started after one day patient received her first dose Corbevax®. Neurological examination findings were weakness, decreased muscles tone, power, diminished or absent deep tendon reflexes cerebrospinal fluid showed increase in protein and normal cell count. diagnosis GBS was confirmed by nerve conduction studies. After confirmation diagnosis, she given intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) g/kg body weight divided over 5 consecutive days. Then examined, condition improved dramatically. rarely caused vaccination. may become life threatening due respiratory involvement. In about 30% cases require admission Intensive Care Unit need for mechanical ventilatory support. So careful monitoring required administration vaccine. This report never discourages rollout, but evolving data should carried on manufacturers independent authorities coming definite conclusion.
