Course enhancement conversations: A holistic and collaborative evaluation approach to quality improvement in higher education

This practice article describes the use of collaborative evaluation for institutional improvement leading to continuous learning at a regional university in Australia. The University Southern Queensland’s Academic Quality Framework (2019–2022) was developed response external drivers improve practices relating comprehensive and systematic analysis academic data. One aspect introduce ‘course enhancement conversations’, which were collaboration between central Unit staff, including course teams teaching leaders within schools faculties. A feature these conversations sentinel rather than performance indicators (not teaching) quality prompt holding conversations. Conversations conducted spirit constructive collaboration, where shared goal support deliver an outstanding student experience. Through adopting approach evaluation, staff champions who gradually acculturated evaluative thinking data-informed decision-making. Issues brought light during have informed changes level, development new procedure embed best-practice monitoring across all levels curriculum delivery.
