چکیده
Abstract Traffic safety is the main support of transportation engineering. Otherwise, there no benefit to a facility that lacks safety. Despite that, most road engineers in developing countries ignore traffic their designs or adopt traditional methods suffer from data weakness. So an urgent need for surrogate measures more accurate methods. This paper offers assessment at signalized intersections Hilla city’s urban areas using micro-simulation model (VISSM) coupled with Surrogate Safety Assessment Model (SSAM). Three are modeled VISSM (version 10) by calculating flows and speeds extracted field data. Also, geometric characteristics timing signal simulated reach real-world. Then vehicle trajectory files exported SSAM 3). Several indicators conflicts computed SSAM, involving max speeding (Max S), rate deceleration (DR), time post encroachment (PET), collision (TTC). The number, type, severity calculated. categorized into three types according conflict’s angle, rear-end, lane change, crossing conflicts. results showed optimal values two differ one location another, where TTC ranged between (1.5-1.8) s PET (4.7-5.3) s. Rear-end prevailed all sites until reached 55% approaches varied 0.74 as high-risk 1.8 low-risk collision, while (TTCI) 40 St Bab Al Hussein were 0.86 0.82.respectively. Therefore, they both classified intersections. As Al-Mashed intersection (TTCI=1.23), it moderate risk.

Developing an Analytical Model and Simulation of The Contraflow Left-Turn Lane at Signalized Intersections
At some intersections, excessive queue lengths may spill out of the left-turn bay and block the through lanes, jeopardizing level of service for the entire intersection. One of the most effective plans recently presented by the researchers is the "Contraflow left-turn lane" (CLL) In this method, left-turn vehicles will use the nearest lane in the opposite direction in addition to the usual left...
متن کاملUsing micro-simulation to investigate the safety impacts of transit design alternatives at signalized intersections.
This study investigates the use of crash prediction models and micro-simulation to develop an effective surrogate safety assessment measure at the intersection level. With the use of these tools, hypothetical scenarios can be developed and explored to evaluate the safety impacts of design alternatives in a controlled environment, in which factors not directly associated with the design alternat...
متن کاملQuasi-induced Exposure Method for Pedestrian Safety at Signalized Intersections
To investigate pedestrian exposure when only pedestrian-crash data are available, the quasi-induced exposure method is used to identify the factors that contributed to pedestrian-vehicle crashes in Las Vegas from 2004 to 2008. The results show that overall crash severity, light conditions and weather conditions are potentially risky factors in pedestrian crashes, and the time of day or day of t...

This paper introduces a micro-level behavioral approach for estimating the crash potential at unsignalized intersections for different traffic conditions. To this end, prox...
