Coulomb expansion of a thin dust cloud observed experimentally under afterglow plasma conditions

چکیده
The Coulomb expansion of a thin cloud charged dust particles was observed experimentally, in plasma afterglow. This occurs due to mutual repulsion among positively particles, after electrons and ions have escaped the chamber volume. In experiment, two-dimensional initially levitated glow-discharge plasma. power then switched off produce afterglow conditions. subsequent fall slowed by reversing electric force, an upward direction, allowing extended observation. At early time, measurements horizontal direction are found be accurately modeled equation state for uniformly disk. Finally, bouncing from lower electrode avoided lowering impact velocity <100 mm/s.

Residual dust charges in an afterglow plasma
An on-ground measurement of dust particle residual charges in the afterglow of a dusty plasma was performed in a rf discharge. An upward thermophoretic force was used to balance the gravitational force. It was found that positively-charged, negatively-charged and neutral dust particles coexisted for more than one minute after the discharge was switched off. The mean residual charge for 200 nm r...
متن کاملLaser-induced plasma cloud interaction and ice multiplication under cirrus cloud conditions.
Potential impacts of lightning-induced plasma on cloud ice formation and precipitation have been a subject of debate for decades. Here, we report on the interaction of laser-generated plasma channels with water and ice clouds observed in a large cloud simulation chamber. Under the conditions of a typical storm cloud, in which ice and supercooled water coexist, no direct influence of the plasma ...
متن کاملCoulomb Cluster in a Plasma under Cryogenic Environment
Coulomb cluster of dust particles in an RF helium plasma under cryogenic environment is observed experimentally. Background neutral temperature is controlled by cryogenic liquid such as liquid helium or liquid nitrogen. Dust dynamics in a sheath is studied. A dust injected into a sheath moves toward an equilibrium position where the sheath electric force balances with the gravitational force. D...
متن کاملExperimentally Observed Dark Matter Confinement Clarifies a Discrepancy in Estimating the Universe's Expansion Speed
It is well known the our Universe is expanding. In principle, we can estimate the expansion speed either directly, by observing the current state of the Universe, or indirectly, by analyzing the cosmic background radiation. Surprisingly, these two estimates lead to somewhat di erent expansion speeds. This discrepancy is a important challenge for cosmologists. Another challenge comes from recent...
متن کاملInfluence of plasma diffusion losses on dust charge relaxation in discharge afterglow
Abstract. The influence of diffusive losses on residual dust charge in a complex plasma afterglow has been investigated. The dust residual charges were simulated based on a model developed to describe complex plasma decay. The experimental and simulated data show that the transition from ambipolar to free diffusion in the decaying plasma plays a significant role in determining the residual dust...
