Cost Benefit Analysis of Dairy Farming in South West Nigeria

Abstract The dairy sector performs a fundamental role in daily income, self-sufficiency, and food security among farming households. Therefore, this study conducted cost-benefit analysis of production South West Nigeria. Data were collected using structured questionnaire from 150 farmers selected through multistage sampling method. Descriptive statistics budgetary techniques the analytical tools employed. majority (60.67%) within active productive age. Most (58.67%) male, (92.91%) married. (45.45%) had primary education. total revenue (TR) realized was ₦493,752.00 per annum. On other hand, fixed cost (TFC) incurred ₦ 44,799.00. variable (TVC), (TC), gross margin (GM) net farm income (NFI) are; ₦229,142.00, 273,941.00, ₦264,610.43 ₦219,811.43 respectively. Furthermore, rate return on investment (RORI) ₦0.80, which implies that every one naira invested, ₦1.80 with profit N0.80. Dairy is profitable, given positive values indices. However, genetically improved breeds, proper orientation support services for farms are strongly advocated better performance yield.
