Cosmic-ray transport and gamma-ray emission in M31

چکیده
We study the possibility that an extended cosmic-ray leptonic and/or hadronic halo is at origin of large-scale gamma-ray emission detected from Andromeda Galaxy (M31). consider a broad ensemble non-homogeneous diffusion scenarios and injection sources. find electrons protons could be, very likely are, responsible for part, or all, M31, including out to more than 100 kpc center galaxy. also simulate possible pulsars in effect regions highly inefficient around acceleration sites, as suggested by recent TeV observations with Cherenkov telescopes.

Time Delays in Cosmic Ray Propagation
Cosmic Rays (CR) travel at speeds essentially indistinguishable from the speed of light. However whilst travelling through magnetic fields, both regular and turbulent, they are delayed behind the light since they are usually charged particles and their paths are not linear. Those delays can be so long that they are an impediment to correctly identifying sources which may be variable in time. Fu...
متن کاملGamma Ray Bursts and Cosmic Ray Origin
This paper presents the theoretical basis of the fireball/blast wave model, and some implications of recent results on GRB source models and cosmic-ray production from GRBs. BATSE observations of the prompt γ-ray luminous phase, and Beppo-SAX and long wavelength afterglow observations of GRBs are briefly summarized. Derivation of spectral and temporal indices of an adiabatic blast wave decelera...
متن کاملCosmic Gamma - Ray Bursts
1. Abstract GRBs have remained a puzzle for many high–energy astrophysicists since their discovery in 1967. With the advent of the X–ray satellites BeppoSAX and RossiXTE, it has been possible to carry out deep multi-wavelength observations of the counterparts associated with the GRBs just within a few hours of occurence, thanks to the observation of the fading X-ray emission that follows the mo...
متن کاملX–ray Emission in Gamma-ray Blazars
As shown by Maraschi (this volume) the overall spectral energy distribution (SED) of the blazars detected by EGRET shows two peaks, in a ν–νF (ν) plot. With few exceptions, the minimum between these two peaks occurs in the X–ray range. We can exploit this observational fact to constrain the models proposed to account for the SED of blazars, and to reach an important conclusion: the conversion o...
متن کاملNeutrino and cosmic-ray emission from multiple internal shocks in gamma-ray bursts.
Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are short-lived, luminous explosions at cosmological distances, thought to originate from relativistic jets launched at the deaths of massive stars. They are among the prime candidates to produce the observed cosmic rays at the highest energies. Recent neutrino data have, however, started to constrain this possibility in the simplest models with only one emission zone. I...
