چکیده

Background: Early and non-invasive diagnosis of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia remains critical in dark skinned babies low resource settings. Objective: To assess correlation/agreement between transcutaneous bilirubin (Tcb) serum (Tsb) values full term neonates with jaundice. Methodology: An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted at the neonatology unit Essos Hospital Centre (EHC) from January to June 2019. All full-term aged 0 7 days suspected jaundice who did not receive phototherapy were eligible for study. The enrolled assessed clinically, then MBJ20 bilirubinometer (TcB). highest measurement over forehead sternum compared TsB. Data entered analysed CsPro7.2 R (version 3.6.0) software. Correlation captured by Bland & Alman plots Concordance Coefficient (CCC) estimates. Pearson correlation coefficient Student test paired data used descriptions purposes, significance level 5%. Results: We recruited 88 neonates. sex ratio included 1.25 favouring males. Median Post-natal age 3 62% 72 hours or more. mean TcB corresponding maximum average frontal sternal 153 mg/dl ± 48 Tsb 123.80 50.48. A good linear found total r = 0.86 [0.80; 0.91]. Positive noted both (forehead sternum) measurements sites, namely 0.78 0.86. Altman plot measured bias -29.68 mg/l (confidence interval 95%, 21.14 - 80.50). CCC estimate 0.2 varying -0.22 0.76 according threshold post-natal age. ROC area under curve value a Conclusion: despite poor agreement Tsb. method systematically overestimated

[Evaluation of transcutaneous bilirubin measurement and agreement with bilirubinemia].

Evaluation of the neonates for jaundice and kernicterus is indispensable when early hospital discharge has become standard practice. Transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB) measurement is an advantageous option because of its non-invasive nature and the possibility of its use near the patient. The point of care device BiliCheck has been compared in numerous instances to serum bilirubin. However, its cli...

An Introduction to Anemia and Bilirubinemia

In this report, we provide an overview of two serious medical conditions, anemia and bilirubinemia (commonly known as jaundice), which are associated with changes in the contents of specific chromophores present in the blood stream. In general terms, anemia results from a decrease in the hemoglobin content, while jaundice results from an increase in the bilirubin content. Both of them have a si...

Comparing transcutaneous bilirubin versus serum bilirubin measurement using spectrophotometry for jaundice screening of full-term neonates

Background: Neonatal jaundice is an almost common problem among neonates that may cause complications such as kernicterus in severe cases. Since early diagnosis and proper treatment of neonatal jaundice is vital to prevent the related complications, it is necessary to check bilirubin before discharging the neonates. There are several evaluating and diagnostic methods to measure the level of bil...

On the Assisted Assessment of Anemia and Bilirubinemia Conditions

In this report, we review a number of procedures and devices that are used to diagnose and quantify the severity levels of two ubiquitous medical conditions, anemia and bilirubinemia (jaundice). Both conditions are associated with changes in the contents of specific chromophores present in the blood, more specifically hemoglobin present in the red blood cells (RBCs) and biliribin found in the p...

The Relationship between Neonatal Jaundice and Maternal and Neonatal Factors

Background: Maternal and neonatal factors could help determine the potential incidence of hyperbilirubinemia. In this study, we aimed to identify the relationship between the severity of jaundice in newborns and maternal and neonatal factors. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in 2014. Icteric newborns, admitted to Qods and Kowsar teaching hospitals in Qazvin, Iran ...
