چکیده

There are more than 3.4 million deaths every year in the world due to overweight and obesity. Obesity is a chronic proinflammatory condition marked by increased lipid adipose tissues, leading ectopic fat accumulation with levels of cytokines. causes progressive increase galectin-3 expression, especially visceral subcutaneous tissue experimental animals. Galectin-3 upregulated obesity defined as molecule that can cause insulin resistance. This study aims analyze differences between obese non-obese subjects. was cross-sectional study, using total 80 The conducted throughout August 2022. samples were grouped into based on Body Mass Index (BMI). measurement used Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Statistical tests Mann-Whitney test Spearmen rho; results significant if p-value <0.05. divided groups, each group had 40 people. 0.9±0.36 ng/mL significantly higher group’s 0.43±0.11 ng/mL, (p<0.001). strong positive correlation BMI, (r=0.866, p<0.001). serum BMI. greater value galectin-3.

Association of serum leptin level with obesity in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Background Obesity is a medical problem in survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Obesity is associated with many complications, so it is important to investigate the respective etiology. Leptin is a protein synthesized in the fatty tissue and is effective in the control of obesity. Survey of leptin in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors could be helpful in controlling ob...

O-3: Obesity, Insulin Resistance and Their Correlation with Testosterone Levels in Male Patients

Background: Obesity and insulin resistance refer to a clustering of various medical conditions, with a number of pathological components that contribute to the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Some studies have shown that free testosterone levels are low in obese men and are inversely correlated with the degree of obesity. In addition, leptin levels increases with obesity tha...

Galectin-3 Participates in Cardiovascular Remodeling Associated With Obesity.

Remodeling, diastolic dysfunction, and arterial stiffness are some of the alterations through which obesity affects the cardiovascular system. Fibrosis and inflammation are important mechanisms underlying cardiovascular remodeling, although the precise promoters involved in these processes are still unclear. Galectin-3 (Gal-3) induces inflammation and fibrosis in the cardiovascular system. We h...

Role of Galectin-3 in Obesity and Impaired Glucose Homeostasis

Galectin-3 is an important modulator of several biological functions. It has been implicated in numerous disease conditions, particularly in the long-term complications of diabetes because of its ability to bind the advanced glycation/lipoxidation end products that accumulate in target organs and exert their toxic effects by triggering proinflammatory and prooxidant pathways. Recent evidence su...
