Pyoderma Gangrenosum in a Patient with X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia

X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is a primary immunodeficiency disorder caused by germline mutations of B-cell tyrosine kinase (BTK) gene. It is characterized by decreased serum immunoglobulins levels and circulating mature B cells. This defect in humoral immunity leads to increased susceptibility to infection. Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an uncommon, ulcerating, neutrophilic dermatosis. Here...

Refractory chronic pleurisy caused by Helicobacter equorum-like bacterium in a patient with X-linked agammaglobulinemia.

We describe a 35-year-old man with X-linked agammaglobulinemia who had refractory chronic pleurisy caused by a Helicobacter equorum-like bacterium. Broad-range bacterial PCR targeting the 16S and 23S rRNA genes and in situ hybridization targeting the 16S rRNA gene of H. equorum confirmed the presence of this pathogen in a human for the first time.

neutropenia associated with x-linked agammaglobulinemia

x-linked agammaglobulinemia (xla) is a hereditary immunodeficiency, characterized by an early onset of recurrent bacterial infections, hypogammaglobulinemia and markedly reduced b lymphocytes number. in order to determine the association of neutropenia among iranian patients with xla, hospital records of 30 patients with confirmed xla in children medical center hospital, were reviewed. eight ou...

Splice-Correction Strategies for Treatment of X-Linked Agammaglobulinemia

X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is a primary immunodeficiency disease caused by mutations in the gene coding for Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK). Deficiency of BTK leads to a developmental block in B cell differentiation; hence, the patients essentially lack antibody-producing plasma cells and are susceptible to various infections. A substantial portion of the mutations in BTK results in splic...

Recurrent bacteremia caused by a "Flexispira"-like organism in a patient with X-linked (Bruton's) agammaglobulinemia.

Helicobacter spp., except for Helicobacter cinaedi, have only rarely been reported in cases of septicemia. A patient with X-linked (Bruton's) agammaglobulinemia was found to have persistent sepsis with a Helicobacter-like organism despite multiple courses of antibiotics. His periods of sepsis were associated with leg swelling thought to be consistent with cellulitis. The organism was fastidious...
