Corners in phase-field theory

چکیده
Phase-field models for strongly anisotropic surface energy need to be regularized remove the ill posedness of dynamic equations. Regularization introduces a new length scale, corner size, also called bending length. For large with respect interface thickness, phase-field method is known converge asymptotically toward sharp-interface theory when appropriate approximation Willmore used. In this work we study opposite limit, i.e., size smaller than width, and show that shape corners, at equilibrium, differs from picture. However, find phase transition preserved presents same properties as classical problem.

2 Phase Transitions in Quantum Field Theory
In this lecture at a school for condensed matter physicist, I begin with basic concepts and tools for investigating phase transitions in quantum field theory. The very different roles of global and gauge symmetries in phase transitions will be elucidated. Among the important applications of the basic theory the thermodynamics of the electroweak transition is treated in detail, and the implicati...
متن کاملPhase Congruency Detects Corners and Edges
There are many applications such as stereo matching, motion tracking and image registration that require so called ‘corners’ to be detected across image sequences in a reliable manner. The Harris corner detector is widely used for this purpose. However, the response from the Harris operator, and other corner operators, varies considerably with image contrast. This makes the setting of threshold...
متن کاملPhase-space Quantization of Field Theory
In this lecture, a limited introduction of gauge invariance in phase-space is provided, predicated on canonical transformations in quantum phase-space. Exact characteristic tra-jectories are also specified for the time-propagating Wigner phase-space distribution function: they are especially simple—indeed, classical—for the quantized simple harmonic oscillator. This serves as the underpinning o...
متن کاملFinite Temperature Field Theory and Phase Transitions *
We review different aspects of field theory at zero and finite temperature, related to the theory of phase transitions. We discuss different renormalization conditions for the effective potential at zero temperature, emphasizing in particular the MS renormalization scheme. Finite temperature field theory is discussed in the real and imaginary time formalisms, showing their equivalence in simple...
متن کاملEffective Field Theory Approach to Phase Transitions
In this paper I discuss the effective field theory approach, recently developed by Braaten and Nieto in the investigation of quantum field theories at high temperature. I demonstrate that this method can be easily extended to the study of phase transitions in theories with spontaneous symmetry breaking. The first step consists of the construction of a sequence of two effective three-dimensional...
