Corneal transplant epidemiology in a reference center in Bogotá, Colombia (2010-2017)

Purpose: To describe the characteristics of donor and recipient, indications, surgical techniques, survival results obtained from patients with corneal transplants performed at Fundación Oftalmológica Nacional (FUNDONAL) between 2010 2017.Methods: Descriptive, observational study. Medical records who underwent transplantation were reviewed. Demographic data, surgery indication, technique, graft transparency, presence rejection are evaluated. Statistical analysis was SPSS software version 21.0.Results: Seven hundred twelve eyes 690 analyzed. The median age recipient 42 years (interquartile range 21.8 years) 392 participants (56.8%) men. Corneal ectasias first indication for transplantation. technique most often penetrating keratoplasty (PK) (89.6%), followed by deep anterior lamellar (5.3%), endothelial (3.5%), sclerokeratoplasty (1.5%). 22.25% cases presented least one episode. Transparency is >80% up to 36 months follow-up.Conclusions: In 712 that 2017, frequent indications ectasias, pseudophakic/aphakic bullous keratopathy, previous failure. Although common PK, there a tendency perform more over years. Survival last control 78% 22.23%, which comparable reported in scientific literature.
