Corn starch based films treated by dielectric barrier discharge plasma

Cold plasma is an innovative strategy to strengthen the polysaccharide-based films characteristics. This study evaluated effects of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) on hydrophilic character, water vapor permeability (WVP), and tensile properties corn starch-based films. Starch were exposed processing operating at excitation frequency 200 Hz for 10, 15, 20 min. DBD resulted in further enhanced strength stiffness, lower hydrophilicity solubility; however, it did not present significant WVP resulting within ranges studied. Higher hydrophobicity, strength, stiffness verified after The results presented this work suggest that has potential make a more suitable packaging material.
