Selective functionalization: Shields for small molecules.
P rotecting groups have a long history in synthetic chemistry 1. A protecting group is covalently attached to one functional group to block its reactivity while a second functional group undergoes a chemical transformation, after which the protecting group is then removed (Fig. 1a). The use of protecting groups requires both protection and deprotection steps, so efficiency considerations dictat...
متن کاملFunctionalization of boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond with N3 dye molecules.
N3 dye molecules [cis-bis(isothiocyanato)bis(2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylato)ruthenium(II)] are covalently attached to boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond (B:NCD) thin films through a combination of coupling chemistries, i.e., diazonium, Suzuki, and EDC-NHS. X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy are used to verify the coval...
متن کاملSurface functionalization of aluminosilicate nanotubes with organic molecules
The surface functionalization of inorganic nanostructures is an effective approach for enriching the potential applications of existing nanomaterials. Inorganic nanotubes attract great research interest due to their one-dimensional structure and reactive surfaces. In this review paper, recent developments in surface functionalization of an aluminosilicate nanotube, "imogolite", are introduced. ...
متن کاملCarbonate hydroxyapatite functionalization: a comparative study towards (bio)molecules fixation.
Different methods for the functionalization of carbonate hydroxyapatite granules with free amine groups by reaction with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) have been compared in order to improve the potential for tethering of bioactive molecules to bioceramics. The combined use of tetraethoxyorthosilicate and APTES with acid catalysis resulted in an evident increase in amine surface grafting.
متن کاملCatalyst recognition of cis-1,2-diols enables site-selective functionalization of complex molecules
Carbohydrates and natural products serve essential roles in nature, and also provide core scaffolds for pharmaceutical agents and vaccines. However, the inherent complexity of these molecules imposes significant synthetic hurdles for their selective functionalization and derivatization. Nature has, in part, addressed these issues by employing enzymes that are able to orient and activate substra...
