Coping with Coping: International Migrants’ Experiences of the Covid‐19 Lockdown in the UK

Globally, policymakers have overlooked the challenges faced by international migrants in host countries during Covid-19 pandemic. The policies and support systems designed governments highlight lack of social justice raise concerns for scholarly attention. Considering experiences living UK lockdown from theoretical perspective coping, this interpretivist study investigates migrants’ coping strategies adopted first national lockdown. Data collected 60 Chinese, Italian Iranian using semi-structured interviews period were analysed thematically NVivo. findings show that multi-layered multi-phase strategies. To cope with anxiety uncertainties caused pandemic, they initiated new practices informed both home institution logics. Nevertheless, hostile context's responses provoked unexpected worries triggered adoption additional compromising practices. paper illustrates how became paradoxical because had to reactions their initial environment.
