چکیده

A substantial fraction of the freshwater available in Neotropical forests is enclosed within rosettes bromeliads that form small aquatic islands a terrestrial landscape. These oases provide shelter, water, nutrients and resting aggregation sites for several organisms, among them crustaceans. However, comparison with multitude studies on open systems, our knowledge crustaceans inhabiting semi-terrestrial habitats phytotelmata limited their presence such environments poorly understood. The present study was carried out two natural protected areas Yucatán Peninsula aiming to understand diversity dispersal strategies living bromeliads. Sediment water contained four species have been collected order habitats. From total 238 surveyed, 55% were colonized by Sixteen copepod, three ostracod one branchiopod recorded during this study, however only seven are considered as true bromeliad inhabitants. Different degrees association between assessed an indicator analysis, where significant associations found all We differences reserves associated fauna. In analyze genetic fauna, we sequenced individuals each markers (18S rRNA COI mtDNA). Bayesian analyses Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent method (GMYC), delimited 7 well supported species. used different species, including passive dispersal, phoretic behavior active included. This stresses need studying meiofauna phytotelms, which could be local forests.

Polliniferous plants and foraging strategies of Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico.

A study of the most important polliniferous plants for European and Africanized honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) was made in Quintana Roo state. Comparisons were made between the plants visited by both bee types in order to determine whether there were qualitative or quantitative differences in their choice of plant species. Also some foraging strategies of the honeybees were analysed. Pollen from...

Transgenic soybean pollen (Glycine max L.) in honey from the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico

Using precise pollen species determination by conventional microscopic methods, accompanied by molecular genetic markers, we found bees collect GMO (genetically modified) soybean pollen and incorporate it in Yucatan honey. Honey comb samples from Las Flores, Campeche, Mexico, often contained soybean pollen. Pollen in honey was analyzed in nine samples; six contained substantial soy pollen and t...

In this study the first blind species of Hyalella for Mexico is described; it is the second in the genus to be recorded there. Re-infestation of houses by Triatoma dimidiata after intra-domicile insecticide application in the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico.

In most countries, Chagas disease transmission control remains based on domestic insecticide application. We thus evaluated the efficacy of intra-domicile cyfluthrin spraying for the control of Triatoma dimidiata, the only Chagas disease vector in the Yucatán peninsula, Mexico, and monitored potential re-infestation every 15 days for up to 9 months. We found that there was a re-infestation of h...
