چکیده
ABSTRACT Pulsatile jet propulsion is a common swimming mode used by diverse array of aquatic taxa from chordates to cnidarians. This locomotion has interested both biologists and engineers for over century. A central issue understanding the important features jet-propelling animals determine how animal interacts with surrounding fluid. Much our knowledge come simple theoretical approximations propulsive resistive forces. Although these models basic kinematic measurements have contributed greatly, they alone cannot provide detailed information needed comprehensive, mechanistic overview functions across multiple taxa, size scales through development. However, more recently, novel experimental tools such as high-speed 2D 3D particle image velocimetry permitted quantification fluid dynamics propulsion. Here, we comparative analysis variety parameters efficiency, kinematics parameters, review can aid principles Research on disparate allows comparison similarities differences between them contributes robust

Vortex Rings in Bio-inspired and Biological Jet Propulsion
Pulsed-jets are commonly used for aquatic propulsion, such as squid and jellyfish locomotion. The sudden ejection of a jet with each pulse engenders the formation of a vortex ring through the roll-up of the jet shear layer. If the pulse is too long, the vortex ring will stop forming and the remainder of the pulse is ejected as a trailing jet. Recent results from mechanical pulsedjets have demon...
متن کاملJet propulsion without inertia
A body immersed in a highly viscous fluid can locomote by drawing in and expelling fluid through pores at its surface. We consider this mechanism of jet propulsion without inertia in the case of spheroidal bodies and derive both the swimming velocity and the hydrodynamic efficiency. Elementary examples are presented and exact axisymmetric solutions for spherical, prolate spheroidal, and oblate ...
متن کاملJet Propulsion Engines
The jet propulsion engine is used for the propulsion of aircraft, m issile and submarine (for vehicles operating entirely in a fluid) by the reaction of jet of gases which are discharged rearward (behind) with a high velocity. As applied to vehicles operating entirely in a fluid, a momentum is imparted to a mass of fluid in such a manner that the reaction of the imparted momentum furnishes a pr...
متن کاملAntifungal peptides in marine invertebrates
A majority of terrestrial and marine organisms use to fend off a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi by employing “antimicrobial peptides (AMPs)” that are ribosomally synthesized from proteinogenic amino acids. AMPs are a primary component of innate immune mechanisms in marine invertebrates. In contrast, marine sponges seem to contain no AMPs, but often contain nonribosom...
