Contribution to the Ethnobotanical Knowledge of Serre Calabre (Southern Italy)

This work presents the results of an ethnobotanical research carried out in territory Serre Calabre, province Vibo Valentia (Calabria, southern Italy). In this territory, bond between residents and rural environment is still strong, small urban centers are placed a predominantly agricultural forestry managed traditional way. The survey took place January 2019 July 2021. data were collected through semi-structured interviews with locals. samples plants under indication interviewees then deposited at herbarium Mediterranean University Reggio Calabria (REGGIO). stored on database, using software "Microsoft Office Ac-cess" ®. information was analyzed statistically Ex-cel”®. Some synthetic indexes have also been calculated, such as Relative Frequency Citation (RFC) Cultural Importance Index (CI). 17 informants interviewed total 185 recorded. led to identification 84 taxa belonging 39 different fami-lies, among which most represented Lamiaceae (23 interviews, 9 taxa), Asteraceae (22 in-terviews, 12 taxa). Among identified taxa, prevalent uses alimentary one (46 32 taxa) medicinal (55, 27). obtained show how knowledge about Calabre area alive, however it exclusive heritage elderly people often only or just few informants. Many practices no longer use transmitted new generations.
