Contempt and Righteous Anger: A Gendered Perspective From a Classical Indian Epic

چکیده

Reading a passage in the Sanskrit Mahābhārata—the attempted disrobing of Princess Draupadī after her senior husband has gambled away (after losing all his wealth, brothers and himself)—I suggest that we see attitude angry words an expression contempt. I explore how contempt is concept not thematized within aesthetics emotions, but nonetheless clearly articulated literature. Focusing on significance gendered anger contempt, positive acceptance it text, can be understood as transformative woman (even high-born one) towards iniquities patriarchal culture.
