Constraints on warm dark matter from UV luminosity functions of high-z galaxies with Bayesian model comparison

چکیده

The number density of small dark matter (DM) halos hosting faint high-redshift galaxies is sensitive to the DM free-streaming properties. However, constraining these properties complicated by degeneracies with uncertain baryonic physics governing star formation. In this work, we use a flexible astrophysical model and Bayesian inference framework analyse ultra-violet (UV) luminosity functions (LFs) at z=6-8. We vary complexity galaxy (single vs double power law for stellar -- halo mass relation) as well spectrum (cold thermal relic warm DM), comparing their evidences. Adopting conservatively wide prior range WDM particle mass, show that UV LFs z=6-8 only weakly favour CDM over WDM. find masses $\lesssim$2 keV are rejected 95% credible level in all models have WDM-like cutoff. This bound should increase ~2.5 James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

Constraints on the Warm Dark Matter Model from Gravitational Lensing

Formation of sub-galactic halos is suppressed in warm dark matter (WDM) model due to thermal motion of WDM particles. This may provide a natural resolution to some puzzles in standard cold dark matter (CDM) theory such as the cusped density profiles of virialized dark halos and the overabundance of low mass satellites. One of the observational tests of the WDM model is to measure the gravitatio...

Constraints on Warm Dark Matter from Cosmological Reionization

We study the constraints that high-redshift structure formation in the universe places on warm dark matter (WDM) dominated cosmological models. We modify the extended Press-Schechter formalism to derive the halo mass function in WDM models. We show that our predictions agree with recent numerical simulations at low redshift over the halo masses of interest. Applying our model to galaxy formatio...

Direct X-ray Constraints on Sterile Neutrino Warm Dark Matter

Warm dark matter (WDM) might more easily account for small scale clustering measurements than the heavier particles typically invoked in Λ cold dark matter (ΛCDM) cosmologies. In this paper, we consider a ΛWDM cosmology in which sterile neutrinos νs, with a mass ms of roughly 1-100 keV, are the dark matter. We use the diffuse X-ray spectrum (total minus resolved point source emission) of the An...

Warm Dark Matter Model of Galaxy Formation

Cold Dark Matter (CDM) models of galaxy formation had been remarkably successful to explain a number of observations in the past decade. However, with both the theoretical modeling and the observations being improved, CDM models have been very recently shown to have excessive clustering on the sub-galactic scale. Here I discuss a solution, based on our high-resolution numerical simulations, to ...

Lyman-α constraints on warm and on warm–plus–cold dark matter models

We revisit Lyman-α bounds on the dark matter mass in Λ Warm Dark Matter (ΛWDM) models, and derive new bounds in the case of mixed Cold plus Warm models (ΛCWDM), using a set up which is a good approximation for several theoretically well-motivated dark matter models. We combine WMAP5 results with two different Lyman-α data sets, including observations from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We pay a ...
