چکیده

ABSTRACT KH 15D is a system that consists of young, eccentric binary, and circumbinary disc obscures the binary as precesses. We develop self-consistent model provides reasonable fit to photometric variability was observed in over past 60 yr. Our suggests has an inner edge rin ? 1 au, outer rout ? few misaligned relative stellar by ?5–16°, with more inclined than edge. The difference between inclinations (warp) longitude ascending nodes (twist) at edges are order ?10 ?15°, respectively. also provide constraints on other properties disc, such precession period surface density profile. work demonstrates power data constraining physical planet-forming discs.

The Circumbinary Ring of Kh 15d

The light curves of the pre-main-sequence star KH 15D from the years 1913– 2003 can be understood if the star is a member of an eccentric binary that is encircled by a vertically thin, inclined ring of dusty gas. Eclipses occur whenever the reflex motion of a star carries it behind the circumbinary ring; the eclipses occur with period equal to the binary orbital period of 48.4 days. Features of...

Gas Absorption in the Kh 15d System: Further Evidence for Dust Settling in the Circumbinary Disk

Na i D lines in the spectrum of the young binary KH 15D have been analyzed in detail. We find an excess absorption component that may be attributed to foreground interstellar absorption, and to gas possibly associated with the solids in the circumbinary disk. The derived column density is log NNa i = 12.5 cm−2, centered on a radial velocity that is consistent with the systemic velocity. Subtrac...

The Orbit and Occultations of Kh 15d

The unusual flux variations of the pre–main-sequence binary star KH 15D have been attributed to occultations by a circumbinary disk. We test whether or not this theory is compatible with newly available data, including recent radial velocity measurements, CCD photometry over the past decade, and photographic photometry over the past 50 years. We find the model to be successful, after two refine...

Kh 15d: a Spectroscopic Binary

We present the results of a high-resolution spectroscopic monitoring program of the eclipsing pre–main-sequence star KH 15D that reveal it to be a single-line spectroscopic binary. We find that the best-fit Keplerian model has a period P = 48.38 days, which is nearly identical to the photometric period. Thus, we find the best explanation for the periodic dimming of KH 15D is that the binary mot...

3 The Circumbinary Ring of KH 15 D

The light curves of the pre-main-sequence star KH 15D from 1913–2003 can be understood if the star is a member of an eccentric binary that is encircled by a vertically thin, inclined ring of dusty gas. Eclipses occur whenever the reflex motion of a star carries it into the shadow of the circumbinary ring; the eclipses occur with period equal to the binary orbital period of 48.4 days. Features o...
