Conservation value of semi-open habitats for ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae, Cicindelidae) in Central Europe

چکیده
Abstract Reintroduction of grazing to counteract insect decline will lead an increase semi-open habitats. Semi-open habitats are highly heterogeneous, consisting a mosaic patches trees or shrubs embedded in matrix dominated by dwarf grasses. Despite lack evidence, structural heterogeneity is expected allow many species co-occur, making appear valuable for invertebrate conservation. We studied ground beetles eight sites two landscapes Central Europe each encompassing semi-open, open, and forest Rapid response environmental change limited dispersal abilities make excellent model taxon evaluate the effectiveness such conservations measures. In both landscapes, beetle assemblages tended be distinct intermediate between those from open Species richness functional diversity were similar at site level. The majority entered habitats, except most threatened species, yet, few exclusively associated with conclude that continuous presence likely results mass effects rather than habitat per se . Our findings underline conservation value existing forest, heathland, grassland over which can, however, function as landscape connectivity. Strategies aiming promoting should target enhancing connectivity creation only.

What do we know about winter active ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) in Central and Northern Europe?
This paper summarizes the current knowledge on winter active Carabidae in Central and Northern Europe. In total 73 winter active species are listed, based on literature and own observations. Ground beetles are among the three most numerous Coleoptera families active during the autumn to spring period. The winter community of Carabidae is composed both of larvae (mainly autumn breeding species) ...
متن کاملGround beetles of the Ukraine (Coleoptera, Carabidae)
A review of the ground beetles of the Ukrainian fauna is given. Almost 750 species from 117 genera of Carabidae are known to occur in the Ukraine. Approximately 450 species of ground beetles are registered in the Carpathian region. No less than 300 species of ground beetles are found in the forest zone. Approximately 400 species of Carabidae present in the forest-steppe zone are relatively simi...
متن کاملChecklist of the Iranian Ground Beetles (Coleoptera; Carabidae).
An up-to-date checklist of the ground beetles of Iran is presented. Altogether 955 species and subspecies in 155 genera belonging to 26 subfamilies of Carabidae are reported; 25 taxa are recorded for Iran for the fist time. New localities are listed and some previous distributional records are discussed.
متن کاملThe Influence of Landscape Heterogeneity - Ground Beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) in Fthiotida, Central Greece
Pitfall traps were used to sample Carabidae in agricultural land of the Spercheios valley, Fthiotida, Central Greece. Four pairs of cultivated fields were sampled. One field of each pair was located in a heterogeneous area and the other in a more homogeneous area. Heterogeneous areas were composed of small fields. They had high percentages of non-cropped habitats and a high diversity of land us...
