چکیده

The genus Ctenomys consists of about 70 species and in addition to the Geomyidae Nearctic, Neotropical tuco-tucos represent a well-documented case diversification subterranean biotype. Here we will: i) Provide an updated summary natural history 12 extant from Bolivia; ii) Update information on distributions each species; iii) Using ecological niche modeling, evaluate recent projected habitat transformation or degradation within known range provide preliminary assessment preservation conservation status ctenomyids Bolivia. We follow Gardner et al. (2014) combine summaries with both published new data compile complete list Occurrence for Bolivia surrounding areas were extracted database Arctos GBIF. All individual specimen-based locality records checked georeferenced by referring original museum collection records. created distribution models enough using climate soil data, while rest estimated ranges based occurrence localities. Finally, quantified amount large-scale conversion occurring range, as well potential effect climatic change distribution. present regarding biology tuco-tuco (Ctenomys) occur Bolivia, including unpublished such association, interactions activity patterns gathered authors through extensive field work. Besides this, current species, assessed five species. found that habitats C. boliviensis steinbachi have experienced significant land-cover conversions years. also show opimus, above mentioned are expected undergo contractions resulting 2070. Our review shows there is dearth history, taxonomy many Bolivian Nonetheless, presented here can be tool directing focusing studies these This great importance if take into account most subject one several conservation/preservation threats. These include: Habitat destruction via land use changes conjunction geographic small areal extent which cases not adequately covered protected areas.

The conservation status of the tuco-tucos, genus Ctenomys (Rodentia: Ctenomyidae), in southern Brazil.

The goal of conservation biology should be related to the preservation of species and also to the evolutionary and ecological processes that were responsible to form them and that are still acting. We review the conservation status of the species of tuco-tuco (Ctenomys torquatus, C. lami, C. minutus, and C. flamarioni) from southern Brazil, and relate these data to the geological history of a p...

Modeling Natural Photic Entrainment in a Subterranean Rodent (Ctenomys aff. knighti), the Tuco-Tuco

Subterranean rodents spend most of the day inside underground tunnels, where there is little daily change in environmental variables. Our observations of tuco-tucos (Ctenomys aff. knighti) in a field enclosure indicated that these animals perceive the aboveground light-dark cycle by several bouts of light-exposure at irregular times during the light hours of the day. To assess whether such ligh...

Human impact in naturally patched small populations: genetic structure and conservation of the burrowing rodent, tuco-tuco (Ctenomys lami).

Isolated or semi-isolated small populations are commonly found among species, due to a naturally patchy occupancy of suitable habitats or also as a result of habitat alterations. These populations are subject to an increased risk of local extinction because they are more vulnerable to demographic, genetic, and environmental stochasticity. Considering that natural areas have been becoming progre...

Oxytocin and vasopressin receptor distributions in a solitary and a social species of tuco-tuco (Ctenomys haigi and Ctenomys sociabilis).

The neuropeptides oxytocin and vasopressin and their receptors have been implicated in elements of mammalian social behavior such as attachment to mates and offspring, but their potential role in mediating other types of social relationships remains largely unknown. We performed receptor autoradiography to assess whether forebrain oxytocin receptor (OTR) or vasopressin V1a receptor (V1aR) distr...
