Conflict Framing in the News Media and Political Discussion

چکیده
Though political discussion amongst citizens is central in democracy, little known about what triggers informal discussions and through which pathways. This article argues that gain knowledge politics when they are exposed to conflict the news media this may encourage them participate more conditioned by their orientation towards due potential interpersonal conflict. The indirect effect argued be larger on social where behaviour uncivil than face-to-face interactions. Based a content analysis of coverage three-wave panel survey (n = 2,049), exposure framing found have positive changes frequency across settings. mediated subsequently moderated avoidance: non-avoiders positively influenced avoiders. public private wider societal implications results discussed.
