چکیده
Abstract In the domain of information systems ontologies, notion completeness refers to ontological contents by demanding that they be exhaustive with respect ontology aims represent. The purpose this paper is analyze such a notion, distinguishing different varieties and questioning its consistency open-world assumption, which formally assumes incompleteness conceptualizations on ontologies.

Quality of Ontologies in Interoperating Information Systems
The focus of this paper is on quality of ontologies as they relate to interoperating information systems. Quality is not a property of something but a judgment, so must be relative to some purpose, and generally involves recognition of design tradeoffs. Ontologies used for information systems interoperability have much in common with classification systems in information science, knowledge base...
متن کاملEvaluating Health Information Systems Using Ontologies
BACKGROUND There are several frameworks that attempt to address the challenges of evaluation of health information systems by offering models, methods, and guidelines about what to evaluate, how to evaluate, and how to report the evaluation results. Model-based evaluation frameworks usually suggest universally applicable evaluation aspects but do not consider case-specific aspects. On the other...
متن کاملUsing Ontologies for Integrated Geographic Information Systems
Today, there is a huge amount of data gathered about the Earth, not only from new spatial information systems, but also from new and more sophisticated data collection technologies. This scenario leads to a number of interesting research challenges, such as how to integrate geographic information of different kinds. The basic motivation of this paper is to introduce a GIS architecture that can ...
متن کاملFormal Contextual Ontologies for Intelligent Information Systems
due to the extensive research in the emerging field of ontologies. Ontologies Driven Information Systems (ODIS) were introduced by N. Guarino in 1998 [Gua98], and recently is finding rather a great attention from numerous, diversified fields such as Web-based information systems, information integration, and the Semantic Web. This paper introduces the notion of contextual ontologies which it ca...
متن کاملComputational Ontologies and Information Systems I: Foundations
This paper provides a state-of-the-art review about computational ontologies to raise awareness about this research area in the IS discipline and to explore areas where IS researchers can engage in fruitful research. This paper discusses the basic foundations and definitions pertaining to the field of computational ontologies. It reviews the intersection of computational ontologies with the IS ...
