Compensation of seeding bias for particle tracking velocimetry in turbulent flows

چکیده
For small particles locally injected in a turbulent flow and used as fluid tracers, the reconstruction of mean is biased by particle dispersion caused turbulence. example, jet with nozzle injection, entrained inaccurately measured because all tracked come from source. In this work, we present compensation method that provides accurate velocity for flows non-homogeneous seeding conditions.

Tracer particles and seeding for particle image velocimetry
The size specifications for suitable tracer particles for particle image velocimetry (PIV), particularly with respect to their flow tracking capability, are discussed and quantified for several examples. A review of a wide variety of tracer materials used in recent PIV experiments in liquids and gases indicates that appropriately sized particles have normally been used. With emphasis on gas flo...
متن کاملA variational approach for particle tracking velocimetry
We introduce a novel variational approach for evaluating PTV image pairs and sequences in two and three dimensions. We combine a discrete non-differentiable particle matching term with a continuous regularization term. An advanced mathematical method guarantees convergence to a local minimum. The experimental evaluation shows that our variational method competes with three alternative approache...
متن کاملParticle Streak Velocimetry of Supersonic Nozzle Flows
A novel velocimetry technique to probe the exhaust flow of a laboratory scale combustor is being developed. The technique combines the advantages of standard particle velocimetry techniques and the ultra-fast imaging capabilities of a streak camera to probe high speed flows near continuously with improved spatial and velocity resolution. This “Particle Streak Velocimetry” technique tracks laser...
متن کاملSources of Bias in Particle Mesh Methods for Pdf Models for Turbulent Flows
Numerical errors in particular bias in PDF based particle mesh methods for turbulence modeling have been explored It is shown that bias decreases linearly with the increase of the number of particles but increases with grid re nement The uctuations in mean elds which are fed back into the coe cients of stochastic di erential equations are attributed to be the sources of bias The Frozen Coe cien...
متن کاملSom Based Particle Matching for Volumetric Particle Tracking Velocimetry
Novel 3D image analysis and particle matching techniques for the use in the volumetric particle tracking velocimetry have been developed and tested by using synthetic images and experimental images of unsteady 3D flows. A tomography based particle reconstruction scheme along with the subsequent process of individual particle detection and validation was used. The detected particles in the two t...
