Compensation of differential dispersion: application to multiband stellar interferometry

چکیده

With the aim of pushing limiting magnitude interferometric instruments, need for wide-band detection channels and a coordinated operation different instruments has considerably grown in field long-baseline interferometry. For this reason, Center High Angular Resolution Astronomy (CHARA), an array six telescopes, requires new configuration longitudinal dispersion compensators to keep fringe contrast above 95 per cent simultaneously all spectral bands, while preserving transmission 85 cent. In paper, we propose method defining (LDC) suited multiband observations. A literal approximation loss resulting from residues enables us define general criterion maximization on several bands simultaneously. The optimization leads simple solution with only two LDC stages arm existing differential delay lines, glass choice linear formula thickness control these media. refined can also take into account transmission. After presenting criterion, give optimal (medium, configuration) its expected performance planned observing modes CHARA.

Dispersion compensation for atom interferometry.

A new technique for maintaining high contrast in an atom interferometer is used to measure large de Broglie wave phase shifts. Dependence of an interaction induced phase on the atoms' velocity is compensated by applying an engineered counterphase. The counterphase is equivalent to a rotation, is precisely determined by a frequency, and can be used to measure phase shifts due to interactions of ...

New model and application to stellar interferometry

Measurement of a star’s apparent diameter with an intensity interferometer yields its geometrical radius and its effective temperature when one knows or measures the specific centre to limb-darkening. This paper presents a formulation that (1) makes use of a single parameter and (2) is well suited for the interpretation and comparison of centre to limb darkening. Subsequently, this result is ap...

Differential path considerations in optical stellar interferometry.

A formulation of the differential-air-path problem for a large-baseline optical interferometer is presented. Because air is a dispersive medium, each wavelength has a different optical path length. This can be corrected to a large extent if an extra piece of glass is placed in each arm of the interferometer. The problem then becomes analogous to the doublet-achromat design, in which, in this ca...

The Potential for Atmospheric Path Length Compensation in Stellar Interferometry

Adaptive optics provides a method for improving telescope imaging a†ected by atmospheric seeing distortions, but the di†erences in path length Ñuctuations through the atmosphere to two or more separate telescopes continues to limit the quality of stellar interferometry, and unfortunately is not ameliorated by adaptive optics. Some corrections to such Ñuctuations can be made by atmospheric densi...
