Compatibility Investigation of Cationic Surfactants with Anionic Species

The objective of this study was to reexamine the general statement declaring that cationic and anionic species cannot be compatible in cosmetic products. This research demonstrated there are considerable differences between binding preservatives various compounds used cosmetics, depending on functional group. Sulfate- sulfonate-based molecules showed significantly stronger interactions with surfactants than carboxylate-based surfactants: difference affinity could reach a ratio 1 10. We validated conductimetry isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) can as predictive tools determine molecular any species. Consequently, correlation incompatible cationic/anionic mixtures were verified their corresponding anti-microbial activity using challenge test assessed.
