Comparison of selected performance-associated parameters after off-season and two-month training preparation in professional Czech ice hockey players

Background: In ice hockey, regular off-ice testing can serve as a controlling mechanism for training program's effectiveness. Objective: The main aim of this study was to describe changes in selected morphological and physiological parameters, intended be relevant complex hockey performance, after two months pre-season preparation following one month an off-season period. Methods: sample consisted 22 adult male players aged 18-39 years from top Czech league team. Two laboratory procedures performed at the end conditioning basic anthropometry body composition measurements, countermovement jump (CMJ), maximal incremental test focused on assessment various including oxygen consumption (V̇O2max), power output during (Pmax) or estimation anaerobic threshold intensity (ANT). Results: After pre-season, we found significant decrease fat (13.7 vs. 11.4%, p < .001) increase fat-free mass (74.2 76.6 kg, .001), V̇O2max (relative 48.8 52.6 ml.kg-1.min-1 = .001; absolute 4.20 4.54 L.min-1, Pmax (5.26 5.44 W.kg-1, .011), ANT (4.07 4.35 CMJ (44.9 47.1 cm, .002). Conclusions: Based our results, program led improvement physical performance levels professional players.
