Comparison of Desired-Genetic-Gain Selection Indices in Late Generations as an Insight on Superior-Family Formation in Bread Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Wheat is one of the most important sources food worldwide. A selection index helps in making decisions and permits exploitation information on correlated traits to improve yields. Two cycles pedigree based desired-genetic-gain were imposed identify best isolate promising lines. The base population was composed 120 families bread wheat F6 generation. Eight combinations constructed from six traits, i.e., days heading (DH), number spikes/plant (NS/P), grain yield/plant (GY/P), grains/spike (NG/S), mean spike weight (MSW) (GW). narrow-sense heritability NS/P, NG/S, MSW GW increased cycle 1 2, revealing an increase observed gain homogeneity selected for these cycle. After second cycle, GY/P ranged 9.5 23.75% mid-parent. improving 2 (composed GY/P, GW). indices involving DH inferior GY/P. efficient simultaneously several involved a good method preserve genetic variability. Furthermore, superior identified.
