Comparison between Model Test and Three CFD Studies for a Benchmark Container Ship

نویسندگان

چکیده

An alternative to experiments is the use of numerical model tests, where performances ships can be evaluated entirely by computer simulations. In this paper, free surface viscous flow around a bare hull simulated with three Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software packages (FINE Marine, ANSYS CFD and SHIPFLOW) compared results obtained during experimental tests. The studied Duisburg Test Case (DTC), developed at Institute Ship Technology, Ocean Engineering Transport Systems (ISMT) for benchmarking validation methods. Hull geometry test resistance, conducted in facility SVA Postdam, Nietzschmann, 2010, are publicly available. A comparative analysis approach performed, related simulation typical container ship. Further, between provided NUMECA, SHIPFLOW performed. Regarding solution obtained, satisfactory agreement towing computation noticed. minimum mean error was through case, 2.011%, which proved best case studied.

the relationship between eq, iq and test format: a study on test fairness

the major aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between iq, eq and test format in the light of test fairness considerations. this study took this relationship into account to see if people with different eq and iq performed differently on different test formats. to this end, 90 advanced learners of english form college of ferdowsi university of mashhad were chosen. they were ask...

Relationship between container ship underwater noise levels and ship design, operational and oceanographic conditions

Low-frequency ocean ambient noise is dominated by noise from commercial ships, yet understanding how individual ships contribute deserves further investigation. This study develops and evaluates statistical models of container ship noise in relation to design characteristics, operational conditions, and oceanographic settings. Five-hundred ship passages and nineteen covariates were used to buil...

Evaluation of commercial and academic CFD codes for a two-phase flow benchmark test case

The performance of two commercial simulation codes, Ansys Fluent and Comsol Multiphysics, is thoroughly examined for a recently established two-phase flow benchmark test case. In addition, the commercial codes are directly compared with the newly developed academic code, FeatFlow TP2D. The results from this study show that the commercial codes fail to converge and produce accurate results, and ...

VIRTUE: integrating CFD ship design

Novel ship concepts, increasing size and speed, and strong competition in the global maritime market require that a ship’s hydrodynamic performance be studied at the highest level of sophistication. All hydrodynamic aspects need to be considered so as to optimize trade-offs between resistance, propulsion (and cavitation), seakeeping or manoeuvring. VIRTUE takes a holistic approach to hydrodynam...

A Tactical Planning Model for Liner Shipping Companies: Managing Container Flow and Ship Deployment Jointly

This paper addresses two practical problems from a liner shipping company, i.e., the container flow management problem and the ship deployment problem at the tactical planning level. The joint optimization model, as well as, a sequential model, is formulated to solve the problems. Our results show the company should implement the joint optimization model at the tactical planning level to improv...
