Comparison Between Historic Nuclear Explosion Yield Formulas
نویسندگان
چکیده
During the Manhattan Project, a simple formula was developed by Bethe and Feynman in 1943 to estimate yield of fission-only nuclear explosion uniformly dense bare sphere supercritical fissile material. We have not found any evidence that knew first obtained Frisch Peierls contained within their famous March 1940 memorandum. Similarly, we technical documents compare Bethe-Feynman earlier works or Serber. After adjusting for differences labeling critical radii, find formulas only differ scaling factor.

Estimating explosion yield by analytical waveform comparison
The yields of 28 underground nuclear explosions at NTS (25 on Pahute Mesa) are estimated by applying a relative waveform analysis called intercorrelation to 1256 teleseismic short-period P-waves recorded at 74 WWSSN and CSN stations. Corrections for the effects of p P interference and yield-scaling of the explosion source functions are determined and applied to the waveforms, enabling analytica...
متن کاملComparison Between Maximum Sustained Yield Proxies and Maximum Sustained Yield
Attaining maximum sustained yield (MSY) is a central goal in U.S. fisheries management. To attain MSY, fishing mortality is maintained at FMSY and biomass at BMSY. Replacing FMSY and BMSY by “proxies” for FMSY and BMSY is commonplace. However, these proxies are not equivalent to FMSY and BMSY. The lack of equivalency is an important issue with regard to whether MSY is attained or whether biomas...
متن کاملMass-yield distribution of the fission products in fallout from the 14 may 1965 nuclear explosion.
Twenty single particles separated from a 20-liter sample of rain collected in Osaka, Japan, shortly after the 14 May 1965 test explosion of the Chinese nuclear device, were analyzed radiochemically. The abundance pattern of the fission products in these particles resembled the shape of the mass-yield curve for the thermal neutron-induced fission of uranium-235, except for the facts that cesium-...
متن کاملNuclear Explosion Monitoring Research and Development Roadmaps
In the past ten years, significant progress has been made in nuclear explosion monitoring (NEM) through research and development (R&D) with regard to detection, location and identification, however substantial improvements are yet possible. Today, there is increasing interest in both current and planned NEM R&D technology particularly in light of its relevance to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-...
متن کاملRecent Fukushima nuclear detonation, Chernobyl nuclear fallout, three mile island nuclear accident and atomic bomb explosion – rethinking the effects of nuclear radiations over human health
Background: The earlier Atomic Bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and three worth mentioning nuclear accidents - detonation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Chernobyl nuclear fallout and an accident at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant have made us more worried about the secure exploitation of nuclear energy. The central focus of this paper is to review radiation-mediated health e...
