چکیده

Background The Mini-Mental Status Exam (MMSE) is one of the most commonly used cognitive screening measures for diagnosing impairment in older adults. In present study, we examined whether or not there were baseline differences MMSE scores between cognitively normal individuals who developed Alzheimer’s disease over time (decliners) versus did decline (non-decliners). Method We included 67 participants administered during a assessment. All enrolled SIU Longitudinal Cognitive Aging Study (SIU LCAS) as controls free at their visits. Participants divided into two groups (decliners non-decliners). There 25 decliner group and 39 non-decliner group. Average age decliners was 70.84, while average non-decliners 71.67. education 15.76 years, 16.49 years. ratio females to males 4:1 among 1.6:1 non-decliners. A two-sample t-test examine with respect scores. Result (mean = 70.8) significantly younger than 71.7). no significant gender distribution. 11 had autopsy confirmed AD, 14 AD diagnosis without autopsy. 5 evidence pathology on lower compared (p < 0.05). using WORLD backwards 28.96 29.44, respectively, 28.32 28.85, when serial 7’s. Conclusion results study indicate that are subtle (approximately 0.5 points) adults remained normal. More studies larger sample sizes, including more brain autopsy, needed confirm these findings.

Biomarkers Predicting Alzheimer's Disease in Cognitively Normal Aging

The pathophysiologic process of Alzheimer's disease (AD) begins years before the diagnosis of clinical dementia. This concept of preclinical AD has arisen from the observation of AD pathologic findings such as senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brains of people who at the time of death had normal cognitive function. Recent advances in biomarker studies now provide the ability to ...

Factors associated with morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging

Objective Cognitive impairment is associated with reductions in brain weight and volume. The factors related to morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging remain unknown. We aimed to identify which clinical factors are associated with morphometric brain changes in cognitively normal aging. Methods A cross-sectional study of 414 subjects, ≥50 years old submitted to clinical assessm...

Characterizing biomarker features of cognitively normal individuals with ventriculomegaly

Introduction The clinical significance of ventriculomegaly in cognitively normal elderly individuals remains unclear. Methods We selected cognitively normal individuals (n = 425) from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative database and calculated Evans index (EI) based on the ratio of the frontal horn and skull diameter. We defined ventriculomegaly as EI ≥ 0.30, and the participants ...

Age Effects on Cortical Thickness in Cognitively Normal Elderly Individuals

BACKGROUND/AIMS Atrophy in both grey and white matter is found in normal aging. The prefrontal cortex and the frontal lobe white matter are thought to be the most affected regions. Our aim was to examine the effects of normal aging on cortical grey matter using a 3D quantitative cortical mapping method. METHODS We analyzed 1.5-tesla brain magnetic resonance imaging data from 44 cognitively no...

Sex differences in obesity and cognitive function in a cognitively normal aging Chinese Han population

BACKGROUND Sex differences in Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment have been well recognized. However, sex differences in cognitive function and obesity in cognitively normal aging Chinese Han population have not attracted much attention. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between sex, obesity, and cognitive function in an elderly Chinese populati...
