Comparative Study Regarding Autonomy of Final-Year Surgical Residents: A Case Study of Perception among Surgical Residents, Surgical Staff, Administrators, and Patients at Siriraj University Hospital

Objective: To identify barriers towards resident autonomy as perceived through four groups; surgical residents, staff, administrators, and patients.Materials Methods: Anonymous surveys were distributed to these groups. Data thematically analyzed.Results: 401 responses collected including 231 patients. The response rate of administrators was 62.2% (119), 44.8% (26), 43.1% (25) respectively. Patients had more favorable views participation than staff. Administrators staff indicated that residents have a positive effect on overall quality care provided so do the patients, however, believed too much for deceased patient safety. When increased, increased cost considered. Residents patients same opinion should receive discount medical expenses, which is opposite administrators’ staff’s opinion.The presence in operation room major impact big influence acceptance operative complications.
