Comparative prescription patterns of antipsychotics among schizophrenic patients attending two public health facilities in North-Eastern and North-Central Nigeria: a crosssectional study

In the care of patients, assessment use drugs is very imperative as it shows quality delivered to patients by caregivers. The study aimed compare prescription patterns antipsychotics in two public healthcare facilities Nigeria using a standardized World Health Organization instrument. studies were conducted at General Hospital, Offa (GHO), Kwara State, and Federal Neuropsychiatric Maiduguri (FNPHMM), Borno State. Ethical approvals obtained from studied facilities. A total 625 prescriptions each selected random sampling. Frequency distributions student t-test used. average number prescribed per encounter was 3.9 GHO, while 1.2 recorded FNPHMM. Injections 14.4% 18.7% encounters GHO FNPHMM, respectively. One hundred percent (100.0%) generic name 98.2% percentage National Essential Drug List 72% FNPHMM 100% GHO. prescribing indicators assessed found be below standard showed polytherapy.
